Andersen Press Announce 30th Anniversary plans for Elmer

Join Andersen Press as we turn the world patchwork in celebration of Elmer’s 30th birthday in 2019, with a programme of exclusive, bespoke books and merchandise, plus the biggest ever marketing and PR drive from the books’ publisher, details of which are revealed for the first time.

Elmer remains one of the most iconic and widely read children’s book series of all time, selling over 8 million copies worldwide since it was first published by Andersen Press in 1989. Written and illustrated by celebrated children’s author and artist David McKee, the Elmer books have been translated into more than 50 languages and now new books, toys and clothing add to the world of Elmer the Patchwork Elephant.

Elmer is about celebrating your own unique, true colours and all of our activity in 2019 will reflect this – Andersen will be encouraging friends, family and schools to come together and celebrate Elmer the Patchwork Elephant!

Working on behalf of Andersen Press to ensure that Elmer has high visibility across all categories in licensing are Penguin Ventures as Global Licensing Agent for the brand and Metrostar representing apparel and bedding in the UK.

Andersen Press’s key activity in 2019 consists of:

-          Special anniversary editions of books, clothing and consumer products throughout the anniversary year.

-          Brand new Elmer book Elmer’s Birthday, written and illustrated by David McKee!

-          The biggest ever Elmer Day on 25th May 2019, with schools, nurseries, bookshops and libraries hosting their own birthday parties for Elmer. Andersen Press will provide an exclusive anniversary event pack for anyone who signs up!

Elmer’s licensing programme has gone from strength-to-strength since the launch of apparel in 2017. In 2018, Metrostar have signed Lifemarque for backpacks and harnesses, further signings will be announced soon.

Penguin Ventures are currently in discussion with several toy and game partners to ensure that there will be an increased offering for Elmer in the run-up to the anniversary year.  They are also working with existing licensees to expand their ranges and looking at new opportunities for the brand over all.

Products across all lines will be launched later this year and throughout 2019.
